Recent advances in processor technology have made it possible to integrate the power of a PC into ‘simple’ products. While not necessarily the latest generation, this area station features a 600 MHz ARM processor, 256 MB of RAM, and 1 GB of Flash storage. Is this overkill? Yes, it is. You could build a similar product with a fraction of this power, but it would lack the features that make this station stand out. Without this processing power, you wouldn’t get such smooth graphics, a robust echo canceller, over-the-air firmware updates, or the ability to run a powerful operating system like Linux. And the reduction in production costs would likely be minimal.
We’ve learned that ease of installation is the most important aspect of any system. However, SIP telephony is inherently complex, involving local networks, routers, SIP providers, accounts, passwords, and more. All of these components need to be configured correctly, or the system simply won’t work. To simplify this process, we offer a PC-based model of the area station, allowing the entire configuration to be set up and verified before installation
